Anyone that knows me, knows that I never advocate copying (or stealing) other people’s articles and posting them on my own site (unless I want to help promote some one’s article in which then I will state that the article was not written by me), but there are those who do steal articles and re post them as their own. To prevent this from happening, WordPress users can use a plugin that disables right clicking (and sends the reader an alert if they try to right click) as well as disables highlighting. This is a simple to install, setup, and use plugin.
The plugin is called WP Copy-Protect and is available to download for free. For those of us who’ve installed WordPress plugins before, then you know how relatively easy and quick the installtion process is. For those who haven’t, you simply click on the “plugins” tab on the left sidebar in your WordPress control pannel and then “add new” button underneath the “plugin” button. You then click “browse” and locate the plugin that you downloaded and then click “install”. Once the plugin is installed you click “active plugin”. After activating the plugin you can proceed to the settings or options section of your WordPress control panel and click on “WP Copy-Protect” button. Click the check boxes for “Disable Right Click” and “Diable Highlight” and then type in your message you want to appear when people try to right click in the approrpiate box and click “update”. That’s it your plugin is setup and should be working!
Now no one will ever be able to copy your articles unless they email you first asking for permission. Wordpress has done it again in regrads to bringing control back to the blogger! Enjoy!
